Holland opened their World Cup qualifying campaign in Group Nine with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Macedonia to join Scotland on three points.

The Dutch had come off a loss to Australia at the weekend in a friendly, but got their campaign off to a winning start, securing the three points with second-half goals from John Heitinga and Rafael van der Vaart.
