The international games saw all the pride and colour of the participating countries, with the anthems being sung in full flow as each country scripted a new note into the history of their football. Some of them will be forgotten, while some others will be memorable due a moment of spark, or an inspired play that won them the encounter.

If one were to single out a game from the entire series of games that took place, it would have to be the meticulous destruction of Argentina by Bolivia. The hosts were playing to save their chance to feature in the World Cup in South Africa, while Maradona’s men were somewhat off colour, to say the least. The home side hammered in six goals in the course of ninety minutes, whereas the Albicelestes managed to score once, as a consolation.

Elsewhere in the Asian qualifiers, South Korea took on their Northern counterparts in a game that showcased the rivalry that has existed between the two sides. The Southern team won under dramatic circumstances through a lone goal from Kim Chi Woo, who scored when there was only a minute until the referee blew the whistle on the proceedings.

Group 3 saw a game in which the Poles put on a real show for their fans by annihilating San Marino by a whopping ten goals. Smolarek showed his class by scoring four times, while the fairly new midfielder Boguski and the future of their country, Lewandowski, each bagged a brace. Jelen and Saganowski added one each to make it a spectacular night for the home side.
