It was a well fought match at Upton Park, but in the end it was Napoli who emerged victors.
A lone goal separated the two sides, when new signing Fabio Quagliarella opened the scoring through a superbly flicked header deep into the second half. Within moments after scoring the goal, the Partenopei were dealt a blow when Manuele Blasi was sent to take an early shower after a second bookable offence.
However, the Azzurri were resolute and displayed great strength to hold off wave after wave of Hammers attack to seal a well fought victory. This will certainly go a long way in steadying the unsteady performances of last season.
