Another extraordinaty week passes by in the Serie B, where the battle for supremacy continues alongside an early struggle for survival in the relegation royale.
Padova continued to add weight to their superb start to the season by notching up a resounding 3-0 victory against Mantova at the Stadio Euganeo owing to goals from Vincenzo Italiano, Andrea Rabito and Edgar Cani. The travellers enjoyed the early stages, but succumbed to two sensational long range strikes from Italiano and Rabito. Cani eventually killed the game through a well worked counterattacking move. This puts the Virgiliani is a very troublesome spot, as they continue to spend time at the wrong end of the table.
Meanwhile, Salernitana lost yet another game to accentuate the sorry situation that the club is currently in, as they remain at the rock bottom of the table having accumulated only two points from nine games so far. The Granata took an early lead when Dino Fava found the back of the net in the second minute. But a goal on each side of the half-time break gave Cittadella the three points that got them past Ascoli to step up to the fifth spot on the table.
Torino continued their indifferent form to lose on home soil to Modena. The Toro wasted many chances, and a continued run of average performances will mar the Tifosi hope that the Turin-based club will go right back into the top flight. A lone goal near the death by Juri Tamburini was enough to seal the three points for the visitors.
Here are the results:
Albinoleffe 1-1 Ascoli
Padova 3-0 Mantova
Sassuolo 2-3 Grosseto
Salernitana 1-2 Cittadella
Torino 0-1 Modena
Vicenza 0-0 Cesena
