Italy boss Marcello Lippi has proclaimed that the Azzurri can match any other team stride for stride, as the men from the peninsula prepare to take to the pitch before their last World Cup qualifying game, against Cyprus on Wednesday.
“There is no team that is superior to this Italy side,” Lippi told Rai Uno.
“I don’t intend to say that we are better than everyone, but we can say that we are not inferior to any side.”
The manager tiptoed around the possibility of a return to the international stage for Francesco Totti, but did not rule out a call-up in the future.
“Saying that the national team is open to Totti is wrong because it is open to everyone,” said the tactician.
La Nazionale have secured a direct qualification into the World Cup with a game to spare.
