Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu suffered an injury during the 5-2 drubbing of Hungarian side Debrecen. The Romania international injured his right knee, but did not ask to be substituted during the second-half of the mid-week encounter.
Mutu scored a goal in the rout and was also instrumental after an unconvincing start to the season. This will come as a blow to coach Cesare Prandelli, particularly with the congested and important schedule in the upcoming weeks.
La Gazzetta dello Sport speculate that Mutu will miss around a month following the surgery required to repair the damage.
La Viola will now have to rely on Alberto Gilardino and Stevan Jovetic to score goals and compensate for Mutu’s absence.
