Fiorentina qualified for the next stage in the Champions League through a 1-0 victory over Lyon at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
The only goal of the game was scored by Juan Vargas from the penalty spot, which ensured that the hosts got all three points from the encounter.
This result saw Liverpool bow out of the competition, despite their 1-0 win over Hungarian side Debrecen.
The Viola have now made history, as this is the first time in a decade that they have managed to enter the last 16 in the Champions League.
