Bayern Munich striker Luca Toni is certain to leave the German club after his public fallout with Louis van Gaal, and has been widely tipped to join Roma in January.
The Italian striker has rarely featured for the Bavarian side this season and is hoping to get back into the Azzurri fold in time for the 2010 World Cup.
His lack of playing time in Germany has prompted a number of rumours the past few months, of a potential move back to Serie A.
The player’s agent, Tulio Tinti, has declared Roma will be the hitman’s first choice after assessing the offers from across Europe. Tinti told Forzaroma.info the decision will be made during the first few days of January.
The English media have reported Liverpool’s Rafael Benitez is considering the signing of Toni, as the striker will likely be released for free by the German side.
