Atalanta will be without veteran ex-Inter marksman Christian Vieri for a month and a half.

Vieri arrived in Bergamo on a free transfer to a lukewarm reception from the fans, who felt the 35-year-old betrayed them when he left for Fiorentina last summer.

And things have gone downhill after Vieri damaged his left thigh in a pre-season friendly against Varese.

The injury has proven to be more serious than first suspected after tests confirmed the problem was a recurrence of last May’s complaint.

Latest indications are that Atalanta will have to do without Vieri for at least 45 days.

That lay-off will rule him out of the Orobici’s Serie A openers against Siena and Bologna – the hitman’s hometown club.
